I already have a VE-GS1 installed that is of limited usefulness lol. The JV-1000 only has 28 notes of polyphony as opposed to later models (it's basically a JV-80 with a sequencer and more sounds). But if there is a strong use case, I could be persuaded possibly. I probably wouldn't get a ton of usage out of that either between the other boards I have. Does anyone have any recommendations for one to get? Note that I'm not someone who needs a lot of synth sounds, so I haven't been very compelled by the Vintage Synth board (or its price) and the Keys of the '60s and '70s seems overpriced as well. I'm curious, is anyone here still using anything from a SR-JV80 board? I'm trying to decide what would be the most useful since I can only have one board installed.

I just realize all the time I lost trying to deal with the unit on the sample stuff.I've owned a Roland JV-1000 for several years and it has one slot for an SR-JV80 series expansion board (as well as one SO-PCM1 card but those were less common to begin with apparently). The only little warmth I first lost was regain using pair of tube compressor or preamp. On a SSL board and on a neve board, the akai S 6000 won over the XV 5080.

So ? It takes a bit longer for me to score tv stuff on my S 6000 and soon Z8 than on my pair of XV 5080.īUT, really my stuff sounds much better than before. But you have to waste time in loading and choosing the right libraries : many don't worth a dime. You need to buy many expansion boards to get (it's true) very good sounds that easily compete with cd roms. Why ? Because when I discovered all the quality you find in programs made of samples, I realized the XV 5080 still sounded too "synth" for me on the acoustic side. It's not a matter of sound quality : this unit sounds as good and on some sounds better than a S 6000, as good as an Emu 4 XT, better than a K2600 RS.

The OS made some improve since 2 years but I'm afraid this unit will alaways remain unuseful/unfinished on the samples reading side. One folder for one bank : can you believe it ? It will erase all the bank (programs and samples) you made before : you have to create another folder. Imagine you create folders on your hd connected to xv 5080 and want to save in the same folders more than 1 bank made of 128 programs (for instance : pads) : YOU CAN'T. wav names and kai parameters and just give numbers to sample waves such as : 001.wav, 002.wav, 003.wav and so on !!! My god !ĥ. Imagine you just want to load some waves you saved with the bank programs : you can't !!! Why ? Because Roland saving loses all. Imagine you just want to save 1 program with samples : you can't !!! You have to save the whole bank !!! (back at the EMAX time !!!)Ĥ. EVERYTHING !!! So you can never optimize your ramģ. Once it's loaded, imagine you just want to erase one program made with samples : you can erase the program (parameters) but NOT the samples concerned. Also it will erase all your internal Roland programs you made ! Better save your stuff before !Ģ. So imagine, you load stuff from your cd or hd into the xv 5080ġ. Triton and kurzweil K 2600 can NEVER compete on this side !Īkai programs sound very good : 24 bits converters. Load mks 80 or JP 8 programs made of samples : you hear the reals beast : no sonic differences !!! Almost no probs. aiff files).Īkai and roland conversions are very very good.
